Domain Names and Children

An email from a friend recently about my son's birth announcement website (bodejohnson.com):
Did you intentionally pick a name that you knew you could get a .COM domain name?

My Reply:
Any good business these days has to check the dot com availability before registering their business. Once Bode becomes a viable commodity I didn’t want consumer confusion because they cannot easily access his website.

Is that horrible?

It's true. The last thing any parent want is to deal with a domain dispute because they didn't do the proper whois search before hand.

So when the parents of fromerly known as Bob Smith have to make a last minute name change, we know why.
